Created by Canova between 1819 and 1821 as a model for an equestrian bronze sculpture.
The restoration project of the Colossal Horse by Antonio Canova finally aims to return to the public a symbol of the Bassano collections and their rich Canovian heritage.
The restoration, entrusted to the firm Passarella Restauri Srl, will see not only the consolidation of the plaster fragments but also the construction of a new internal support structure and a special base that will allow isolating and protecting the plaster.
All phases of the restoration will be documented on the digital communication channels of the Municipality and the Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa, as well as the project partners, to narrate and update the public on the recovery of this “lost” masterpiece.
