The folk tradition returns with the bonfire of mid-Lent.
The traditional rite of the Rogo dea Vecia has its origins in popular tradition, but perhaps even more anciently in the rituals of the transition from winter to spring.
The pruning of trees and vines is collected in a pyre on which is placed a papier-mâché dummy representing the Vecia. That dummy becomes the embodiment of all the evils that have occurred throughout the year, and for this reason, it is put on trial and then burned.
The text of the trial is a way to exorcise the misfortunes that have occurred and to poke fun at the misfortunes and politicians, local and otherwise.
The Pro Loco of Asolo is reviving this traditional event and invites everyone to Piazza Brugnoli on Saturday, March 14 at 8:30 PM.
A small refreshment point will be set up, and there will be an Easter egg lottery.
In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to Sunday the 15th, still at 8:30 PM.
