Three great women have played a key, defining role in the history of Asolo:
- Caterina Cornaro, the Queen of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia in the 15th and 16th centuries, who nurtured a thriving artistic scene in Asolo;
- the legend of the stage Eleonora Duse, who made the town her home in the last few years of her life;
- the British writer and photographer Freya Stark, whose grave is near that of the Italian actress.
